Series 5mx Flexi Fitting
- De-Solder braid
- Temperature controlled soldering iron (NOT just a plug in type!)
- Iso Propol Alcohol (IPA) wipe
- Double sided tape
- Knife or sharp scissors
These instructions assume the use of the Psionflexi.co.uk installation kit
Step 1:Opening - Step 2: Removing - Step 3: Preparation - Step 4: Attachment - Step 5: Reassembly
|Now take your De-solder braid...|
|....and clean the contacts on the PCB. They should end up very
flat and shiny.
Place the cold braid end on the solder that is to be removed. Place the hot soldering iron tip on top of the braid. Remove the braid and the soldering iron at the same time, and cut off the end of the braid that contains the unwanted solder.
|Once cool, take the IPA cleaning wipe and clean the flux from the joint you have just removed the solder from. Repeat this until a new piece of wipe stays clean when you wipe the PCB. This ensures that all the old flux is removed. Finally brush off any small hairs/strands of tissue.|
|You will notice that the old flexi has two parts where it is
doubled over. The new flexi's need to have this fold added to
them. Make the fold, clean with IPA, then stick with double sided
tape, ensuring that it is under the entire folded area. Cut off any
excess tape as required.
The flexi's are quite robust so can be folded without damage, however do NOT aim to get a razor sharp fold as you may crack the pads (this should not be a problem because the solder will bridge it but it is not desired).
|The top fold with the four connections should be such that the left hand edge meets with the right hand edge and the gold contacts are outermost.|
|The longer fold has approx 2.5mm of the top folded over again leaving the gold contacts outermost. You will notice that more of the gold contact is folded under than is left on top. The upper right hand corner should meet with the corner that is just below it.. Ensure that the fold is square with the length of the flexi.|
